Know Your Rights

The Protecting Immigrant Families (PIF) Campaign is dedicated to providing community-facing materials on public charge to better equip immigrants with what they need to know to make the best decision for themselves and for their families.

NOTE: On July 29, 2020 a federal judge in New York granted nationwide preliminary injunctions on the DHS and DOS public charge regulations and a presidential proclamation that would restrict immigration to the United States by people who are uninsured and cannot pay the costs of their health care. Once we receive more information on implementation, we will update all the resources below. In the meantime, the messages in the top 2 resources below accurately reflect the current state of play.

Additionally, please keep in mind that on March 13, 2020 USCIS announced that COVID-19 testing, prevention, or treatment would NOT be used against immigrants in a public charge test. This means that immigrant families should seek the care they need during this difficult time.
